About the Benbrook Police Department

The Benbrook Police Department is organized into three divisions: Field Operations, Administration, and Services.

The current budget authorizes a full-time staff of thirty-six sworn peace officers and twelve civilian personnel, for a total of forty-eight members. Additional staffing includes three part-time peace officers and one part-time civilian employee. The department maintains a fleet of eighteen vehicles, including ten marked patrol units, eight unmarked units and two tactical vehicles.

The Field Operations Division includes the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Sections. Twenty-two patrol officers, four sergeants, and one Lieutenant staff the Patrol Section. There is one sergeant from patrol and one detective currently assigned to special task forces, one officer in crime prevention and one school resource officer at Western Hills High School. In calendar year 2006, the section responded to over 14,440 calls for service and logged over 355,000 miles while maintaining a 2.36-minute average response time. The Criminal Investigations Section consists of five detectives and one Lieutenant. The section investigated 1,606 reported offenses in 2006 and attained a clearance rate of 31% for Index Crimes and 72% for all other crimes.

Our department is committed to education and training. Many officers are currently enrolled in colleges and universities, and all receive advanced, specialized police training. Our sworn members completed 2,825 hours of technical and specialized law enforcement training in 2006. The Benbrook Police Department is one of only a few agencies selected by the Texas Law Enforcement Commission to offer in-house training.

Statewide, the City of Benbrook ranks near the bottom in the occurrence of Index Crimes. (Index Crimes include murder, rape, robbery aggravated assault, burglary, theft, auto-theft and arson.) In 2006 the value of all property stolen in the city totaled $940,750. The police department recovered $314,246 for a recovery rate of more than 33%.
