Employee Benefits
The following benefits are amoung those available to full time, regular city employees:
Health Insurance – The City provides medical, dental and life insurance for employees with optional dependant coverage.
Sick Leave – All employees earn 15 sick leave days per year. Sick leave will not be available until after the first 90 days of employment.
Vacation – Non-Civil Service employees:
- 1-5 years – 2 weeks*
- 5+ years – 3 weeks
*Sworn police personnel will earn 3 weeks vacation following the first year of service.

The City recognizes eleven (11) paid holidays:

- Christmas Day
- Floating Holiday
Retirement – The City is a member of the Texas Municipal Retirement System. The City matches an employee’s contribution of 7% at a rate of 2-1. The City’s plan also includes:
- 5 year vesting
- Retirement at any age with 20 years of service or 5 years of service at age 60
- Occupational disability retirement for employees disabled on or off the job
- Restricted prior service credit
Deferred Compensation – The City offers a deferred compensation plan to employees on a voluntary basis. The plan authorizes a portion of their salary to be withheld and invested for payment upon retirement or following leave of employment. Contributions to a deferred compensation plan are deferred until distribution.
Flexible Benefit Plan – Dependant health insurance premiums can be deducted from an employee’s pre-taxed income. Employees may also participate in a flexible spending account by setting aside pre-tax income to pay for unreimbursed health expenses and dependent child care.
Credit Union – Membership through payroll deduction is available through Omni American Credit Union or Texas Health Resources Credit Union.
Benbrook Community Center/YMCA – City employees are eligible for reduced membership rates to join the YMCA. Enrollment fees are waived. Membership fees may be made through payroll deductions. |
