Environmental Services

The City of Benbrook contracts with Allied Waste Services for residential garbage and recycling services. To promote safe, sanitary, and efficient conditions, Ordinance No. 642 requires all residents to subscribe to the refuse service provided by Allied.

To recycle any electronic equipment, including televisions, computers/monitors/printers, appliances, vacuum cleaners, VCR's, etc. you may take those items directly to Innovative Electronics Recycling
at 5212 Graham Street, or call and they will pick items up from your home: 817-901-6040 or 817-304-6198.

Refuse Collection

  • Household refuse & recyclables are collected on Wednesdays, and must be placed at curbside by 7:00 a.m..
  • Brush & bulk materials placed at curbside on Wednesdays by 7:00 a.m. will be collected by 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.
  • Please place all refuse in closed plastic bags, even if using a garbage can.
  • Placing plastic bags on the curb earlier than Tuesday evening is a violation of City Ordinance.

Yellow Bag Collection

Yellow garbage bags

  • provide a second weekly garbage collection.
  • are collected from the curb on Saturdays.
  • should not be placed on the curb earlier than Friday evening.

The cost of yellow bags includes the cost of collection.  Yellow garbage bags may be purchased at:

  • City Hall (911 Winscott Road), in a roll of 10 ($5.64) or a box of 50 ($27.09).
  • Benbrook Water Authority (1121 Mercedes Street), in a roll of 10 ($5.64).

Curbside Recycling Collection

Blue recycling bins are available (2 per household) at City Hall or Benbrook Water Authority at no charge.

Lids for the blue recycling bins are available for $6.41 per lid.

The City recommends residents mark their names & addresses on the bin with a waterproof marker.

PLEASE RECYCLE THESE:

  PLASTIC

Only plastic bottles with recycling symbols 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7 can be recycled. Most items have the recycle numbers on the bottom.
Examples include milk jugs, soft drink liter bottles, cleaning solution bottles and shampoo bottles.
Please rinse and place lids back on containers.

ALUMINUM, TIN & METAL
All metal food and beverage cans (tin, aluminum, and steel) can be recycled. It is not
necessary to remove labels, but please rinse cans and replace lids when possible. 

GLASS

All colored glass can be recycled. NO mirrors, window glass, plate glass, or ceramic.

NEWSPAPERS & MAGAZINES

Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, slick and glossy inserts, junk mail, envelopes,
and telephone books are acceptable.

CARDBOARD & MIXED HOUSEHOLD PAPER
When possible, break down all cardboard, chipboard, and cereal boxes to allow more room in the container.
All household paper products may be recycled.

NOT RECYCLABLE

Tissues, wet paper or paper contaminated with food products, Styrofoam, plastic grocery bags,
plastic bottles that have contained oil or petroleum by-products.

  • Bulk & Brush Collection

Materials placed at curbside on Wednesday by  7:00 a.m. will be collected by 7:00 a.m. the following Saturday.

Restrictions:

  • Loose brush should not exceed 4 feet in length, 6 inches in diameter, or 100 pounds, when possible.
    • Large brush & bulk materials are collected with a special brush truck designed to be used for collecting cardboard boxes, furniture, and appliances.
  • Per federal law, refrigerators or freezers may not be collected unless a certified technician has removed the CFCs and has certified having done so.
    You may find a technician in the yellow pages under "Appliances-Repair & Service" or online.
  • Constrution materials (e.g. sheetrock, tile, roofing, or earthen materials) will not be picked up.
  • Per EPA restrictions, used tires, batteries, petroleum products, or containers of paint, herbicide, pesticides or other hazardous chemicals or solvents.
    • See below for household hazardous waste disposal.
    • Used tires, batteries, antifreeze, and motor oil may be discarded, for a fee, at the following locations:

Household Hazardous Waste

Each spring and fall, the City of Benbrook provides a Household Hazardous Waste
Collection day in which citizens can drop off hazardous items at a mobile unit at a designated site.  These items may also be taken directly to the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center.

Billing

Benbrook Water Authority (BWA) is the billing agent for the refuse & recycling services provided in Benbrook. The total monthly residential refuse & recycling fee is $12.95 per month (effective January 1, 2012), including state sales tax. A new resident's first bill should be received within the first 30 days and is due upon receipt.
